Avalon has one of the only remaining high dune systems on the East Coast, and over five miles of clean, beautiful beaches. The Washingtonian Magazine voted Avalon’s beaches as the safest for swimming out of thirty beaches visited. The magazine called it “the best beach in New Jersey.” It has gentle surf, a wide sandy beach, natural dunes and good lifeguards.

A one-half mile long boardwalk is available for walking, jogging and biking. Skateboards, roller blades, roller skates and mopeds are not allowed on the boardwalk. Other outdoor activities in Avalon include fishing and crabbing, boating, whale watching, water skiing, wind surfing, hiking, tennis and golf.
